Reactivity Dog Training, Leicester

Canine reactivity Speacialist.png

Town Paws offers a 1 to 1 training service to help your dog overcome their reactivity. The first step is a consultation to assess your dog's needs to create a suitable training plan.

Reactivity is a symptom of a bigger issue and by using positive reinforcement methods, we can tackle the root cause of the problem. Whether it is building the confidence of a fear-reactive dog or teaching calmness to reduce frustration in an excitement-reactive dog, positive reinforcement will help reduce stress for both the dog and the owner.

Training the dog is only half the job. This one-to-one service will also teach you how to handle, manage, and train your dog to ensure you have the information and methods you need to feel confident when out with your dog.

Positive Reinforcement Training

Positive reinforcement and force free training are methods of teaching your dog in an enjoyable and humane way by marking and rewarding the behaviours that we like.

Marking a behaviour is done by picking a marker. This can be a 'click' from a clicker or a word like 'good' or 'yes' and using the marker as soon as the dog has given us the correct behaviour. To 'charge' the marker, simple say the word or click, and reward the dog. The best time to charge the marker is when the dog is relaxed and behaving.

Training with Town Paws is always force free, uses positive reinforcement methods and charging the marker will often be the first thing we work on.

Right from the start, we found that Ben was both consistent and reassuring - something that our dog (and we) needed!! His methods allowed us to praise our dog with rewards instead of barking out orders, which made for a much more light-hearted and fun environment to train our dog. Ben comes with a sturdy background of knowledge and really gets stuck in to the learning so that we felt comfortable when taking him for walks etc. Highly recommended and thankyou.

Would definitely recommend town paws to anyone who wants help with their puppy/dog with positive training. Ben helped me with two of mine we have just finished our final session with him and I can't believe how far they have come in such a short amount of time. He gave us the tools and tips needs to keep going way after the final session. He was great to work with. Cannot recommend enough! Thank you so much

Ben is an absolute star! He came to our aid in our hour of need after Maggie developed a car phobia and I was due to start back at work the following week, so the doggy day care went out the window. Ben takes her every day during the week and the biggest sell is the way she looks forward to him arriving and she will sit on the step for about fifteen minutes waiting for him. She adores him and he has really improved her walking and obedience whilst out walking. Ben is such a calming influence on her - wouldn't change for the world.
